Caimanero, Stone Island

Half day tour to Caimanero, Stone Island An excellent half day tour begins in Mazatlan along paved highways to the town of Villa Union. The road then heads to the beach through palm groves and agricultural farmland. The highways run along the beach to the fishing town of Caimanero, named for its reptiles. A good seafood lunch and refreshments can be purchased in this town. From there, the road leads to the pueblo of El Rosario which has many historical monuments and a colorful past. One of the sites is their cathedral which has an altar that is bathed in 24-carat gold. On the return to Mazola the next stop on the tour is an area known as Stone Island which is now actually a peninsula connected to the mainland. This "island" offers an opportunity to ride through coconut palm groves to a quaint Mexican pueblo where the slow-paced life remains undisturbed by anything other than the coming and going of the tourists. It is a beautiful spot to take lunch at one of the terrific outdoor scenic restaurants specializing in seafood dishes of all types. A pristine beach offers sporting activities such as horseback riding, kayaking, and banana boat rides or you can just lie in the hammock and have a refreshing cerveza.
